ATP formed by endergonic reaction, meaning the reaction is normally unfavourable as it is ‘non-spontaneous’. BUT the energy for this reaction (ADP + Pi + water) comes from an exergonic reaction (cellular respiration) meaning  you end up with an energy rich ATP molecule.
