The structure of nucleotides (the building blocks of DNA)
- Phosphate doesn’t change
- Sugar and base changes between RNA, DNA and ATP
- Swap CH2 for OH and H
The structure of ATP
The importance of chemical energy in biological processes
ATP formed by endergonic reaction, meaning the reaction is normally unfavourable as it is ‘non-spontaneous’. BUT the energy for this reaction (ADP + Pi + water) comes from an exergonic reaction (cellular respiration) meaning you end up with an energy rich ATP molecule.
30.6kJ mol-1 of energy is released upon hydrolysis of ATP
